How To - Create a new News Snippet

The following is a guide to explain the process of creating a new news snippet on the Touch Compass News page.

Step 1
Login to Touch Compass Administration.

Step 2
The following page will load. In the pages grid which appears, find the News row and click the edit link as circled below.

Step 3
A thin blue grey bar runs across the top of the page which is visible in the screenshot below. Click on this bar to open the HypertextMonkey interface.

Step 4
From the HypertextMonkey interface click the drop down arrow on the box labelled “Add new row” and select the News Snippet option.

Step 5
The page will reload which may take a few minutes. Once the page is reloaded you will be able to scroll down the page and see the newly created News Snippet control as shown below.
  1. The “Date” text should be replaced with the date that you wish for the article to display.
  2. The “UniqueName” text should be replaced with a name which is unique to the current article and may commonly be based on or identical to the article title. The unique name will not be directly visible in the published article and is used for navigation purposes.
  3. The “Title” text should be replaced with the title of the article.

Step 6
Clicking in the area named “Body...” will open the text editor and allows users to enter any content as text. The text content can be formatted using the various options provided by the inbuilt editor’s toolbars
.

Step 7
Once the article is finished open the Hypertext Monkey interface by following step 3 of this guide.

There are a selection of options to save and view your changes as circled below.
  1. “Preview” will open a new browser window which will display a preview of the draft state.
  2. “Save page as draft” will save your changes into a draft state which cannot be seen by your site visitors.
  3. “Save page to live” will save the current page to draft and also publish the current page to the live website. Site visitors will then be able to see your changes.
  4. “Revert to live” will copy the live page over any changes saved in the draft state.
Note: Adding a new News Snippet will immediately create a new empty article in draft mode without the user clicking “save page as draft”.

News Snippets can be deleted by clicking their “Delete” button in edit mode. After deleting a News Snippet which was published to live
it is important to save the page in order to update the Snippet navigation.

A page will always load from the draft state when entering edit mode.

Step 8
Once you have finished creating a new News Snippet and you have saved the Snippet for the first time by using either
“Save page as draft” or “Save page to live” options from step 7, the Snippet will save to its default page position at the top of the existing Snippets.

If after the first save, the News Snippet is not in the correct order, then it can be moved manually by using the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons as circled below. After moving any News Snippet it is important to save the page in order to update the Snippet navigation.
