Over 11,000 people attended a Touch Compass performance last year – 11,000 steps closer to achieving the seamless, inclusive society that we seek. But we need your help to continue our important work. We receive some funding from Creative New Zealand on a project-by-project basis, but there are many other important aspects of our work that need funding in order to continue.
You can support Touch Compass via our givealittle page, or by choosing one of the options at the end of this one.
Through generous support the following projects are underway, we seek your help to keep them going:
Match-funding: A hugely generous anonymous benefactor has offered to gift the company $175,000... on the proviso that we can match this amount ourselves. These funds would be a massive help in propelling the following projects forward. We would appreciate any help you can give.
Support a Touch Compass dancer and turn promise into performance: In early 2015 Touch Compass recruited disabled and non-disabled dancers to join our company to perform repertoire, new works and to tour the country. New recruits have been trained in inclusive dance over a six-month period before going on a national tour with ACQUISITIONS. Help us to fund these dancers by donating here.
Accessible dance studio: There is a shortage of accessible performance and dance space in New Zealand. Touch Compass seeks support to maintain and operate the accessible dance studio in Sandringham where it runs its community and youth classes, workshops and creates its professional dance works. This studio costs around $1600 a week to lease and operate. We need your help to keep it running.
New work: Our artistic endeavours are fundamental to what we do. This fund ensures that Touch Compass can create cutting edge choreography and commission collaborating artists to present quality performances both nationally and internationally.
Education and awareness: Changing people’s perceptions about what dance is and who can do it is core to our mission – as is educating people about how diverse arts ensures participation, diversity and a more inclusive society. We do this through street performance, school visits, community dance programmes and training for practitioners and dance teachers. Help us to do more of this important work by donating here.
Capital Endowment programme: Our ultimate aim is for a Centre for Excellence in Inclusive Performing Arts. This long-term goal can only be achieved by forging collaborative partnerships with a cross-section of organisations in the arts, sports, community and disability sectors. Get in touch if you share our vision and want to partner with us. Or donate to our endowment fund here.
Make a donation; make a difference. Help promote a seamless society that redefines what is dance and who can do it.
