Tuarā Wairua kicks off in Tāmaki Makaurau!

Suzanne Cowan, Touch Compass Artistic Direction Panel member:

We are very excited to begin our 3 week workshop with international choreographer Sharon Fridman! It is wonderful to see him again after 10 years and dive into this choreographic exploration.

We had a wonderful warm up last week with Rachel Ruckstuhl Mann and Kristian Larsen. Rachel invited us into a deep somatic process of exploration that reconnected us with contact improvisation techniques, which is the dance form which Sharon largely draws from.

We welcomed Sefa Tunupopo from Wellington to the Touch Compass crew, which includes Duncan Armstrong (also from Wellington), Alisha McLennan Marler, Julie van Renen, Emilia Rubio and myself. It is such a joy to be back in the studio making work after a long hiatus and we can’t wait to see what emerges!
